Arishima Takeo Memorial Museum in Niseko
The Arishima Takeo Memorial Museum (有島記念館) has small displays on the art and literature work of Arishima Takeo (1878-1923), known for novel A Certain Women (Aru Onna: 或る女).
His family own a private farm here from 1898 to 1922, don’t miss the old wooden sheep shed opposite the museum. There is a cafe (10am-4pm) with his books and mountain views.
If you walk to the museum from JR Niseko Station (2.5km), climb up the Oyako-no-saka (親子の坂: parent and child’s slope: closed in winter) where Takeo walked this steep path. The nearest bus stop is the Arishima Kinenkan-mae (有島記念館前), Donan buses from Kutchan Station stop here.
