Hokkaido Hokuryu Sunflower Village: Himawari-no-Sato


Knowns as Japan’s largest sunflower fields (himawari-batake: ひまわり畑), this small agricultural town Hokuryu-cho (北竜町) is popular destination with Asian tourists in summer. You can visit here by buses from Fukagawa, Takikawa and Sapporo.


One of Hokkaido’s most famous and photogenic flower gardens, the Himawari-no-Sato (ひまわりの里) sunflower village (23-hectare) is covered with 1.5 million sunflowers from late July to mid August. 
During the high-season, local and highway buses stop at the Himawari-no-Sato Hokuryu Chugakko-mae (ひまわりの里・北竜中学校前) bus stop. Check out the bloom situation and brochures on the web before yo go.


You can walk in the sunflower maze (8am-6pm; ¥300) and rent a bicycle (¥100 per hour). The Himawari Tourist Center (8am-6pm) has a free left-luggage office and Wi-Fi.
