Cherry-blossom Viewing in Central Date
In Hokkaido's Date City (伊達市), the cherry blossoms come out in early May.
It is a couple of a minutes by foot from JR Date-Monbetsu Station (all limited express trains run between Sapporo and Hakodate via Noboribetsu stop here), you will find the cherry trees on the Kimonbetsu-gawa (気門別川) embankment, and is possible to view at night.
The northern end of Kimonbetsu-gawa's cherry trees, turn left and go up the stairs in fron of the Eneos gas station. Tateyama Park (館山公園) is situated on the hill (former Ainu fortless) overlooking the city and ocean. Locals enjoy the cherry-blossom viewing with picnic boxes here.
About 1km west of Tateyama Park, Route 37 crosses over Date Cycle Path Kaze-no-memory (伊達サイクリングロード風のメモリー: 5.4km) lined with lovely cherry trees. After that you can return to the station or take the bus to Toyako Onsen.
Our ebook travel guides Central Hokkaido and Shikotsu-Toya National Park covering Central Date with a reliable city map (of course these cherry-blossom viewing spots too).
