Herring Goten Otaru VIP Hall: Old Aoyama Villa

The luxurious Japanese-style villa of Kyu Aoyama Bettei (旧青山別邸) was built in 1923 by Aoyama family who won a huge amount of wealth in the herring fishing.

Rooms (photography is prohibited) are fill with lavish decoration and household goods, the building itself appears to be in an art museum.

On-site restaurant serves Nishin-oju (にしんお重: herring lacquered meal box).

From Otaru Station, take bus 10 or 11 to Shukutsu 3-chome (祝津3丁目), bus 10 stops at this villa (小樽貴賓館: Otaru Kihinkan) in summer.
