Sapporo Maruyama Park: Popular holiday destination to locals and tourists
Hugging the gentle mountains and forest, the leafy Maruyama Park (円山公園), about 3km west of the city center, is a popular holiday destination to locals and tourists. English missionary to the Ainu people John Batchelor (1855-1944) wrote ‘the most exhilarating promenade in the neighborhood of Sapporo’ in his book. Thousands of cherry trees come into bloom in early May.
From Odori, get on the Tozai subway line to Maruyama-koen (5min; ¥200).
