Hiking Nopporo Forest Park: Ideal for picnic close to Sapporo

The 2000-hectare sprawling lowland forest park, extends from Eastern Sapporo to Ebetsu to Kitahiroshima, has been preserved from the late 19th-century. A large number of birds and insects inhabit among the trees. The Park is home to the general museum and historical village of Hokkaido.

There are 14 walks crisscross the Nopporo Forest Park (野幌森林公園) in the heart of the Ishikari Plain. We recommend eating a box lunch on the lawn overlooking the 100m-high Orthanc-shaped Hokkaido Centennial Memorial Tower (北海道百年記念塔: Hyakunen Kinento) built in 1970.
