Historical Village of Hokkaido: Time travel to the early 20th-century
In the attractive village of Kaitaku-no-mura (開拓の村) is a fine open-air museum. It boasts frontier era’s 53 historic buildings that were moved here from all over Hokkaido, including public halls, schools, houses, shops and factories. The horse tramway (mid Apr-Nov; ¥250) and horse sleigh (Sat & Sun mid Dec-Mar; ¥250) runs on the street. At least two hours for explore the village.
Near the entrance, the Kaitaku-no-mura Shokudo (開拓の村食堂) serves affordable local cuisines, we recommend Tonden-hei teishoku (屯田兵定食: set meal with potato dumplings, miso oden, pork miso soup and rice bowl).
It is about a 10-minute walk south of the Hokkaido Museum.
