Arte Piazza Bibai: Yasuda Kan Museum of Sculpture
The photogenic sculpture park of Arte Piazza Bibai (アルテピアッツァ美唄) is located inside the old wooden elementary school built in the colliery-era. The emperor Akihito visited here in 2003.
A part of old schoolhouse is still used as a kindergarten.
It exhibits the marble work of Bibai-born famous sculptor Yasuda Kan in the classrooms and open-air grounds setting. You can check out his sculpture 'Myomu' (妙夢) at the Sapporo Station south gate.
There is also an old gymnasium.
For the Arte Piazza, take the Bibai municipal bus higashi line (美唄市民バス東線: hourly; 20-30 min; flat ¥200) from JR Bibai Station.
